Let’s get dressed up! We have had so many ladies coming to
us asking for a look for their next function or occasion and we hear you loud
and clear. We are getting darn close to the full event season with Spring on the horizon and its time to get serious! We have
consulted our resident guru Leisa to give us a guide to building a dazzling look:
The Black Skinny
Start with a black
skinny leg (jean or pant) and all of a sudden your wardrobe will have an updated
look! Black is very slimming and stretchy jeans are perfect for hiding any kind
of lump or bump.
The next step is to find the right cut top to suit your
figure: for a woman with a larger bust, a V neck or low cut scoop neck gives
you the right shape up top. Having a draped fit top will also create a more
flattering silhouette and have a comfy feel. For those with a slender torso, opt
for a more structured and streamlined top.
To finish, a statement clutch and necklace will pop on the
blacks and greys to break it up. A black heeled ankle boot works great to keep
the line of the leg flowing and add that more formal height to the overall
look.
Leisa’s tip: When it comes to statement jewellery, don’t go
bold earrings AND necklace. It’s one or the other: a simple hoop pairs with a
statement necklace; or vibrant earrings and a simple/no necklace. Of course
Leisa would always say a splash of red lippie won’t go astray either!
Slimming Skirt
This look is different because we’re starting with a statement
skirt but is the same in that we’re keeping colour block up the top by pairing
with something plain black. A drapey top on a pencil skirt is great for
all shapes but especially for the bustier lady. These blouses also have an edgier
and younger look to them!
Add a statement necklace to break up all the black and go
for higher heeled ankle boots as long as the cuff isn’t baggy; a baggy boot
looks very clunky on an exposed leg.
The long line cardi can also go a long way to making a short
dress more formal but adding the illusion of length and cover.
Breakout from Black
Breakout from the black with drape and batwing dresses that
are comfy but also a flattering cut for all body types. The V neck suits a
bigger busted lady in the batwing especially because of the extra room you have
in the fit. These colours (the oatmeal/beige and the light grey) are very IN at
the moment as is that bigger banded navy stripe.
This type of dress falls just to the knee and works great with
either a heel or little canvas flat/ballet flat if you need something more
casual. As you can see, Aly has paired each of these dresses with a new
on-trend necklace that pops and ties into the popular colour scheme.
Leisa’s Tip: Just to say it again, opt for either a
statement necklace OR statement earrings then a clutch to match. Choose a plum
or nude lippie depending on the time of day!
Dinner With the Girls
All 3 of these looks are made up by having a great skinny
leg jean/pant and the right top to boot. The twist top is better for a petite
woman looking to add more shape to her look and suits a necklace that sits
high. The plain white blouse is great for petite to mid-size figures and the
scoop/V neck is better for a larger bust in both that and the embellished tee. The
silver embellishment on the tee adds something extra so we say skip the
necklace and go a great pair of earrings instead when it comes to accessorising.
Important point: Us here at Blue Bungalow believe that
white jeans are just as much a staple as a good pair of blue denim jeans. White
denim works best with a darker contrasting top in either navy or black and can be
perfect when you have a top that simply won’t work on any other colour.
Leisa’s Tip: White is flattering to all skin tones so don’t
be afraid to try it! (Napisan will be your friend if anything goes wrong)
